A brilliant village-level Burgundy that punches well above its weight, from one of the region's top producers.

Tollot-Beaut has been growing grapes in Chorey-lès-Beaune since the 1880s, and in 1921 became one of the first Côte d'Or estates to bottle under its own name rather than sell to a négociant. The estate is still family-run, now by cousins Nathalie, Jean-Paul and Olivier Tollot, and the approach hasn't changed too much: farming is largely traditional, yields are modest, and the winemaking is restrained, with minimal use of oak. Today the domaine is regarded as one of the best and most reliable in Côte de Beaune.

The wine is 100% destemmed Pinot Noir, aged 18 months in French oak, only a quarter of it new. The style is rustic, open, and fruit-forward, with no shortage of complexity.

Tasting Notes

Black cherry and raspberry on the nose, with delicate, pretty florals. On the palate it's medium-bodied, the fruit is lush and surprisingly deep, leading to nice leather-and-spice complexity. Tannins are soft and there's lively acidity contributing to a bright, crisp finish.

We're told this wine is a mainstay on many wine lists throughout France and it's easy to see why - it's, generous, well-made, and offers immediate pleasure. 

At this price, we'd confidently say one of best-value bottles of Burgundy in New Zealand right now. 

Pair with roast chicken or mushroom tagliatelle.
