Lauren Langfield may be a new wine label in Australia, but she is by no means new to the wine industry. After graduating from Lincoln University in Canterbury, Lauren worked in Marlborough and then Nelson before heading to Australia in 2011 where she worked as Winemaker for William Downie, then BK Wines before moving on to become the Manager and Chief Winemaker at Orbis Wines in McLaren Vale. Lauren established her own label in 2021 with fruit sourced from Gareth Belton of Gentle Folk Wines.
In 2022, Lauren won 'Best New Act' in the Australian Young Gun of Wine Awards and a year later she won the main award, the 'Young Gun of Wine'. Since then her wines have captured the attention of a number of Australian Sommeliers, being listed at some of Australia's best restaurants and sold in most of the best wine stores too. Lauren is producing beautiful, well-made, fine wines from single varietals and single vineyards across South Australia and the quality and class of these wines is something everyone can enjoy.
Tasting Note:
"Lean and tightly wound, this year's chardonnay shows very characteristic lemon pith, white peach and pear aromatics. Further into the glass you'll find greater generosity, with hints of brioche, hazelnuts, and a lovely lemon curd and cream finish. The small-bunched Mendoza clone had a long, slow ripening period, which sings out in the chalky minerality and fresh acidity. Supported by the lovely ripe stone fruit characters, this chardonnay will leave you salivating.
Handpicked fruit was whole bunch pressed and fermented with wild yeast in French oak barriques for 9 months, with some batonnage during malolactic conversion."
