What started with one single vineyard Pinot Noir from 2015 has now grown into a full range of wines from several carefully chosen vineyards across Marlborough, showcasing the very best of Marlborough - Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Malbec. Palate weight, concentration and intensity of flavour are the three pillars of Calrossie Vineyards' wines.
Vineyard and vintage
100% Pinot Noir, the fruit was sourced from a family-owned vineyard in the Wairau Valley, Marlborough. The soils are wind-blown loess over rich clay. The 2025 growing season was a stunning one, with a mild spring, excellent flowering and then steady warmth and even rainfall through to harvest time. Excellent growing conditions allowed for higher than normal yields that didn't compromise on concentration, flavour or acidity and both seed and skin tannins were beautifully ripe.
Vinification
The fruit was hand harvested, destemmed and then wild-fermented in tank for 4 weeks. The wine was hand-plunged in open-top fermenters during this time. After being gently pressed the wine was matured in aged French oak barriques for 15 months. Bottled unfiltered, unfined (vegan friendly) and with minimal added sulphites.
Tasting Notes
"We aim to produce wines of great palate weight, concentration and intensity of flavour. Our 2025 Marlborough Pinot Noir is elegant, savoury and delicately perfumed. Redolent of blackberries, raspberry and crushed herbs, and with fine-grained tannins from the wine’s fermentation and maturation in aged French oak, this wine will continue to develop further complexity over time. Drink 2026 - 2030."
