What started with one single vineyard Pinot Noir from 2015 has now grown into a full range of wines from several carefully chosen vineyards across Marlborough, showcasing the very best of Marlborough - Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Malbec. Palate weight, concentration and intensity of flavour are the three pillars of Calrossie Vineyards' wines.
Vineyard and vintage
100% Pinot Noir, the fruit was sourced from a family-owned vineyard in the Wairau Valley, Marlborough. The soils are wind-blown loess over rich clay. The 2024 growing season was a low yielding one, with a hot and dry summer, typified by taut acidity, crunchy tannins and serious structure which allows for extended aging.
Vinification
The fruit was hand harvested, destemmed and then wild-fermented in tank for 4 weeks. The wine was hand-plunged in open-top fermenters during this time. After being gently pressed the wine was matured in aged French oak barriques for 21 months. Bottled unfiltered, unfined (vegan friendly) and with minimal added sulphites.
Tasting Notes
"From rich clay soils and high-density planted vines, our Pinot Noir is full of bright, juicy red fruits, a plush but savoury palate and complex tertiary aromas from its time in oak. This is a wine with an equal measure of balance, complexity and flavour, and can be enjoyed now but will develop further complexity with time. Drink 2026-2029."
