2023 Selection Massale Marlborough Chardonnay

Tasting note
A rich, textural Chardonnay with intensity of flavour, structure and balance of oak.

Vinification
The fruit was hand harvested, wild-fermented in small and large format French oak (approx. 5% new) to achieve a balance of texture and taste. Full malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged on gross lees for 12 months prior to being bottled unfiltered and unfined.

"Bright, even, pale yellow. This has a generous, vibrant bouquet with aromas of stonefruit, citrus, almond shavings and delicate spice. Medium-full bodied, aromas of lemon and grapefruit melded with nectarine, almond shavings, spice and Greek yoghurt. The round/ creamy mouthfeel flows effortlessly with tangy acid, along with fine-textured phenolics and subtle almond hints to a dry, long finish. This Chardonnay is forward and elegant, with lovely palate weight and texture. Match with prawns and fish over the next 3-4 years. Handpicked, wild-fermented in small and large format French oak (approx 5% new oak), underwent full MLF, aged on gross lees for 12 months. Unfined, unfiltered. Organic certified. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) May 2024 RRP $25"

2023 Selection Massale Central Otago Pinot Noir

A plush, red-fleshed Pinot Noir from Bendigo, Central Otago. Bright, crimson red in appearance with sweet, juicy red fruits on the palate. Blackberry, Morello cherry and cacao dominate. Soft and supple mouthfeel with a long, persistent finish. Youthful and approachable now, though will continue to gain complexity over the next 2-3 years.

Tasting note
A fruit-forward, savoury Pinot Noir with concentration of flavour, texture and richness.

Vinification
The fruit was hand harvested, 75% whole bunch and wild-fermented in stainless steel tank where it was gently macerated for four weeks before being pressed into aged French oak barriques where it underwent full malolactic fermentation and aging on lees for 12 months before being bottled unfiltered and unfined.

"Medium ruby-red with a purple hue, slightly lighter on the rim. The nose is forward and packed with aromas of black fruit, thyme, spice, and a hint of funk. Medium-bodied, aromas of black cherry and black raspberry interweave with thyme, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a hint of earth. The succulent fruit is ripe with balanced, fresh acidity; ripe tannins smoothly coat the palate and linger with spice and earth to a mealy finish. Match with lamb ribs and braised duck over the next 3+ years. Handpicked, 75% whole bunch and wild fermented in tank for four weeks, then pressed into seasoned French oak barriques for 12 months. Underwent MLF, unfined, unfiltered. 13% alc. Organic certifed. 18.5/20 pts (93pts) May 2024 RRP $30"

91 Points - Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review

"Mid-ruby. A layered, perfumed nose with red fruit, spice and floral notes arranged in an interesting and open bouquet. The palate is charming and juicy-fruited. A light dusting of tannin trims the finish. Approachable now and food-friendly, the palate comfortably navigates being refreshingly bright while still possessing enough complexity and depth to keep your interest. Very drinkable. Drink 2024–2032"
