Another brand-new cuveé from Atipico's Jordan Hogg - this time a very smart textural Rosé made entirely from Syrah.
It comes from El Grouso, a certified organic, one-acre block of close-planted Syrah on the edge of Rapaura and Foxes Island in Marlborough, less than a kilometre south of the Wairau River. The vines grow in gravelly alluvial soils over old stony riverbeds. The block is owned by Annie and Al, who look after it through the season with Jordan.
Notes: Orchard flowers and peach. Textural and mouth-filling on the palate, supple and creamy finish. Complex and textural without sacrificing refreshment and drinkability.
Vinification: Handpicked by friends and family on 21 March. The free-run juice was gently pressed, settled for a few hours, then racked into a seasoned French oak puncheon. Wild fermentation started a few days later and finished after a few months at ambient temperatures. Aged undisturbed on full lees for 6 months, with malolactic fermentation occurring naturally in early spring. Racked with a small 40ppm addition of sulphur dioxide, then bottled unfined and unfiltered in October 2026. A very small amount of natural sediment is expected.
