'Ancient Ways' is the evolution of Marlborough natural wine brand that was once called Native & Ancient. Now led by local winemaker (and artist) Tom Flaherty, here we have their newly released 2025 Marlborough Chardonnay.
Bright, intense and beautifully textured, this premium Marlborough Chardonnay delivers impressive concentration and flavour while retaining the freshness, acidity and energy that make the variety so compelling. The wine sits firmly in that Chablisian citrus spectrum of lemon, lime and grapefruit pith, layered with subtle mineral notes and a lovely natural richness. Aged French oak adds texture, weight and complexity without imposing overt oak flavours, allowing the fruit and vineyard character to shine through. Pure, vibrant and quietly complex, this is a sophisticated, low-intervention Chardonnay with plenty of depth, precision and length. Super smart.
Winemaking: 100% Chardonnay (Mendoza clone), BioGro-certified organic vineyard, the fruit was hand-harvested, whole bunch pressed, then settled into French oak barrels where it was wild fermented and later when through full natural malolactic fermentation. Gently settled in barrel over time, the clear finished was then bottled unfiltered, unfined and with minimal added sulphites.
