Chateau Belle Grange is a tiny 3-hectare biodynamic estate on the slopes of Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, where they grow mostly Merlot and a small amount of Cabernet Franc. They produce two wines: their Saint-Émilion Rouge (this wine) and a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, which sees extended élevage in French oak.
A blend of approximately 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc from vines averaging 50 years old, this wine is a powerful yet balanced, fruit-forward, silky red showcasing the best of Saint-Émilion's siliceous soils. The wine is fermented and matured in aged French oak barriques for 24 months before being bottled.
Château Belle Grange is a wonderful expression of the Saint-Émilion terroir. On the palate, the wine presents as powerful, striking the perfect balance of acidity and tannins. Dark black and red berry fruits, plum, and açaí berry are accompanied by slight nuances of vanilla and spice from the oak aging. This is a fantastic “step up” from Bordeaux Rouge and very much a wine worthy of its prestigious appellation.
