Routeburn Pinot Noir is an Everyday Wine-exclusive label, sourced directly from a well-regarded Central Otago winery. Using our own label allows us to price it as we like, without reference to the original wines' $45 RRP.
This vintage received 95 points from Sam Kim of Wine Orbit (2021 vintage was 94 points):
"It's gorgeously expressed on the nose with dark cherry, toasted spice, thyme, earthy mushroom, and almond notes. The concentrated palate displays elegance and finesse with a silky texture and beautifully infused tannins, finishing impressively long and seductive. At its best now to 2034."
What we thought:
Aromas: Spicy, dark cherry, truffles, dried herbs, amaro
Palate: Powerful, concentrated fruit, long savoury finish with mushroom, sage, forest floor and cacao.
Characteristics: Nice balance of intense fruit and complex savoury notes. Plush, silky tannins. Juicy. Vibrant.
From the winemakers:
"The 2022 vintage marks the second release of our Central Otago Pinot Noir from the Bendigo subregion, with dense dark red berry fruits, a plush, generous palate of cacao, black cherry, and ripe Doris plum, and nuances of graphite, forest floor, and tobacco on the finish. Best enjoyed from release in May 2026 until late 2030."
