What started with one single vineyard Pinot Noir from 2015 has now grown into a full range of wines from several carefully chosen vineyards across Marlborough, showcasing the very best of Marlborough - Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Malbec. Palate weight, concentration and intensity of flavour are the three pillars of Calrossie Vineyards' wines.
Vineyard and vintage
100% Chardonnay, the fruit is from BioGro certified organic vineyards in Wairau Valley, Marlborough. The soils are wind-blown loess over rich clay. Clones are Mendoza and Clone 6, planted in the late 1970s and mid 1980s. The 2025 growing season in Marlborough was very favourable, with even ripening conditions and no adverse weather events, producing white wines with excellent fruit quality, great acidity and intense aromatics.
Vinification
The fruit was hand harvested, destemmed, then gently pressed and then fermented in a combination of aged large-format French oak and stainless steel tank for 11 months. Bottled unfined (vegan friendly) and with minimal sulphites.
Tasting Notes
"From rich clay soils and high-density planted vines, our organically grown Chardonnay delivers flavours of fresh citrus and white peach, with subtle cues of oyster shell, biscuit and toasted hazelnut. Full of aroma and vibrant acidity, this wine will drink well from now but continue to reveal more with time through to late 2030."
