Grape Varietal(s): Nebbiolo
How It Drinks: Powerful, Bold, and Complex
Winemaking Style: Traditional

Thanks to its more delicate tannins, Barolo from Comune di Barolo has a more immediate approach. It is intended for a shorter ageing than other cuvees while remaining true to Scarzello's style. The wine is powerful and complex, with incredible concentration, while remaining elegant and full of finesse. The 2016 is at its premium drinking window now-to-2026

Federico Scarzello is the third generation to make wine at his family’s estate in Barolo, taking over in 2001. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength, and has been tipped as one of Barolo’s rising stars for his respect for traditional winemaking combined with an utter dedication to quality. Winemaking at Scarzello is very much in the traditional style. Fermentations are long in some vintages over 50 days on the skins and the wines are given extended ageing in large old oak casks and bottle. In practice, this means that Scarzello wines are released a year or so later than others. The wines display texture and finesse, and a subtle power that demands attention.
