Case of 6 Bottles
Tasting Note
Our third iteration in five years, the 2019 Grand Reserve Pinot Noir is distinctly Calrossie in taste; complex tertiary aromas and a savoury yet powerful palate, packed with red berry fruits. This vintage will drink well from now but continue to reveal more with time through to late 2034.
Vineyard and vintage
100% Pinot Noir, the fruit was sourced entirely from the Calrossie Vineyard, a single hillside vineyard located in the lower Awatere Valley in Marlborough, New Zealand that was planted in 2003. Soils are wind-blown gravels over rich clay. The 2019 vintage was a warm but dry one, with the heat of the summer reducing yields in comparison to 2018, but with low disease pressure and no rain at time of harvest what little fruit there was at the time of harvest was in excellent condition.
Vinification
The fruit was hand harvested into small picking bins before being transported to the winery where it was destemmed (100%), and macerated in tank for three weeks. With gentle cap management the fruit was pressed into French oak barriques (20% new) where it was wild-fermented and then matured in barrel for three years. Once racked from barrel the wine was aged in tank for a further two years prior to being bottled unfiltered and unfined (vegan friendly). Contains sulphites.
