Clemens Busch is an amazing producer of Riesling.
Located in Mosel, Germany, he produces an array of Rieslings that showcase the soils on which they are grown. Here, 'Rothenpfad Reserve' is from one single vineyard site with red-slate soils, giving the dry, fresh, citrus qualities of the Riesling nuances of strawberry and raspberry, all the while delivering a crisp, dry wine with both with palate weight and tension.
Fun tidbit: Rothenpfad Reserve is rated Grosse Lage (GL / Grand Cru) and would normally receive the top Grosse Lage classification for Dry German Riesling too (called GG or Grosses Gewaches) - but - in this case, Clemens Busch Reserve level wines are aged on gross lees beyond the maximum allowable time on lees for GG classification. So what you are drinking here is of at least GG quality, but perhaps even a little more complex owing to its additional time on yeast lees.
If you are a Riesling fan, or just a lover of well-made wine, look no further.
