A 'happy accident' of sorts for Hawke's Bay winemaker Amy Farnsworth of Amoise.
While making her 2023 Amphora Gamay (a blend of two Gamay clones) Amy's Two Terraces Gamay (which is usually picked early and blended post-fermentation with another clone) completed carbonic maceration, and what resulted was a pink, hibiscus-coloured wine more akin to a rose!
After tasting, the wine revealed itself as etherial, fresh and complex: red currants, strawberries and pomegranate with a textural finish. All components for an excellent chilled red!
In Amy's words: "This wine is perfect for summer, I definitely recommend to drink cold or lightly chilled. Also a great food wine! Spicy foods, charcuterie, fish, grilled veggies and cheese. At 11.5% it is your ultimate picnic wine."
