Tasting
The Grand Reserve is always our best expression of Calrossie Vineyard Pinot Noir, treated to extended aging in barrel, then tank and then bottle. Equally rich yet delicate, this wine will drink well from now but continue to reveal more with time through to late 2029.

Vineyard and vintage
100% Pinot Noir, the fruit was sourced entirely from the Calrossie Vineyard, a single hillside vineyard located in the lower Awatere Valley in Marlborough, New Zealand that was planted in 2003. Soils are wind-blown gravels over rich clay. The 2016 vintage was a warm one, allowing the fruit to ripen adequately for extended aging.

Vinification
The fruit was hand harvested into small picking bins before being transported to the winery where it was destemmed (100%), and macerated in tank for three weeks. With gentle cap management the fruit was pressed into French oak barriques (20% new) where it was wild-fermented and then matured in barrel for nearly four years (two years longer than normal). Once racked from barrel it was then aged in tank for a further three years prior to being bottled unfiltered and unfined (vegan friendly). Contains sulphites.

95 Points - Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
"Moderately deep ruby-black with slight hints of garnet on the rim. The nose is enticing and rich, with aromas of black cherry, blackberry, medicinal herbs, spice, game and earthy undergrowth. Medium-bodied, aromas of black cherry, intermixed dried blackberry, strawberry, unfolding thyme, dried basil, black tea, cinnamon bark, liquorice, shiitake, game and notes of tobacco. A gentle entry with delicate weight and subtle tannins, unveiling dried herbs and spices layers. Integrated, lively acidity carries to linearity. This Pinot Noir is delicate yet powerful, harmoniously integrated featuring a silky palate with concentration and age developments. Match with tea-smoked duck and roasted pigeon over the next 5 years. The fruit was from Home vineyard in lower Awatere Valley planted in 2003, 100% destemmed, macerated in tank for three weeks, pressed to French oak barriques (25% new) for wild fermentation, then matured for nearly four years, racked to tank for a further three years. Unfined. Unfiltered. Vegan friendly. 13.52% alc. 19/20 pts (95 pts) May 2024 RRP $50
