Claret ("Clah-ritt") is the popular British name given to red wine from Bordeaux. It's a humble name given to a wine of not so humble origins.... so in selecting this wine we have allowed ourselves a few contradictions too.
On tasting this Claret, you might say it's a Bordeaux blend in style, being Merlot-dominant, but then again it has a rather un-Bordeaux like portion of Syrah and Pinot Noir in the blend too. The Syrah gives spice and fragrance, the Pinot Noir gives fruit flavour and suppleness.
It's from "New Zealand's Bordeaux", aka Hawke's Bay, and as is our theme, it's from BioGro certified organic vineyards too.
This wine has true depth of flavour both in its aroma and its palate. Blueberry, vanilla and cassis on the nose. Rich, unctuous fruit and nicely melded tannins form the palate.
Our Claret is that delicious bigger red you want on these colder winter nights when a glass of Pinot just won't cut it.
