Nas del Gegant is Escoda's richest red wine, made from a blend of 70% Merlot, 10% Garnatxa Negra (Grenache), 10% Pinot Noir and 10% Carinyena (Carignan). Soft, plush and pure, this is a delicious red with fruit weight and concentration. There's enjoyable texture and tannins owing to ripeness of fruit and amphora used for fermentation, and some really beautiful crushed herb complexity there too. Very pleasant drinking.
Escoda - Sanahuja wines are from dry-grown, ancient bush vines on limestone soils, in the foothills of the Tossal Gros national park (Conca de Barbera, 1 1/2 hours Southwest of Barcelona, Spain). Joan Ramon Escoda, founder of the famous Bar Brutal in Barcelona, and his wife Mari Carme Sanahuja, make all their wines in tinajas (Spanish clay amphora), which are then fed down into their undergound cellar, all by gravity. Never rushed to bottle and all made without any added sulphites, fining or filtration, these wines are pure, fruitful and energetic, and amazing examples of what natural wine is all about.
