For the first time ever in New Zealand - please welcome Yvon Métras, an enigmatic figure in winemaking who produces highly sought-after cult wines from his own parcels throughout Beaujolais. His ancestral vineyards have adhered to organic and biodynamic principles since the late 1980s. While preferring to keep many of his winemaking techniques private, Métras produces some of the best, most meticulously crafted minimal intervention Beaujolais in the world. They're rare as hens' teeth too - with very little of it making it out of Europe.
The 2020 Moulin-à-Vent is sublime, exhibiting Burgundy-like power behind the initial cherry, violet and berry front-palate. Showing an elegant mineral backbone with subtle earthiness, a touch of wildness and smoke supported by prominent acidity. Decant and drink now, or age with confidence!
