Kenzie Wines are the new project by Kiwi winemaker Dave Mackintosh, who has returned to New Zealand after years in Australia producing the well-known Arfion and Smokestack Lightning wines. He is based in Hawke's Bay where he is sourcing fruit from various organic vineyards. We are showcasing his wines that come from BioGro certified organic vineyards.
"The first wines that really engaged us were the Cabernet and Merlot dominant blends of the Hawke’s Bay, shared with our mother in the late 90’s. She passed away shortly after.
We still have a few wines from that time. They tell a story and are incredibly ageless. So we felt compelled to take a modern spin to the Hawke’s Bay classic, red blend.
Making wine in Te Matau a Māui feels like we are going full circle, letting life flow to where it wants to go.
Red fruits, dark plum, spice, licorice and herb notes. The palate is soft and gentle, but has a beautiful medium weight, light juicy tannins and a fresh acid finish."
